Group Discussion Series This series of exercises are for use with groups of between 4 and 8 participants. The exercises fall into two categories. Those where each person is assigned a specific role to play (Assigned Role Group Discussion) and those where each participant is given the same brief (Non-Assigned Role Group Discussion). Assigned Role Group Discussion exercises are marked with a “l”. The exercises have been written to simulate situations inherent in a range of managerial and supervisory roles. Bargaining for limited resources, helping a group to meet deadlines, agreeing on priorities and action plans are all day to day work situations which are simulated by these exercises. Besides the more obvious behaviours to be observed in these exercises such as communication skills and impact on others, assessors will be able to observe leadership skills, ability to analyse problems and make rational judgements. Personal qualities such as resilience and tenacity can also be assessed.
